Lady Liberty
An interesting thing I learned about Lady Liberty is that she is wearing sandals, which in Roman times could only be worn by men who could vote. The fact that she is a woman wearing sandals and that she is walking forward is a bold statement, especially since this was given to the USA as a gift from France in a time when women were not able to vote.

wow, i also didn't know about it. from where did you get to know about it?
I actually learned this from the Circle Line Cruise which is where this picture was taken. The tour guide was very informative.
